Woman gives birth in mobile hospital as Florence rocks the Cape Fear

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — As many were dealing with record flooding from Hurricane Florence last week, a baby girl was coming no matter what.
Atrium Health says Murphy was born Friday inside Carolinas MED-1, a mobile hospital in front of a Family Dollar in Burgaw.

Keyana was 41-weeks pregnant and in active labor when she arrived, according to a Facebook post by Atrium Health.
Doctors in MED-1 were able to connect virtually with an obstetrician in Charlotte to evaluate and confirm a delivery plan. Several other teammates, including local paramedics were on hand to help this first time mom through the delivery.
According to Atrium Health, with her husband and mother also by her side, Murphy was born just a few hours later. Both mom and baby are doing well.
Keyana says she had planned to deliver naturally, but never thought it would be in a mobile hospital.
“It is just so crazy that Murphy came when she did! Everyone has been so wonderful to me and my family,” she said.
Dr. Andrew Godfrey, an emergency room physician, helped deliver the baby.
“This was just the icing on the cake,” Dr. Godfrey said. “That we got to take part in something amazing like a birth, and things went well. This is the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my medical career.”
MED-1 has been operating as the only medical facility within a 50-mile radius in Burgaw since September 17, after Florence caused a great deal of flooding and damage in that area.
Atrium Health says the team has helped more than 400 patients last week.
